11 Best Trip Planning Apps For Travelers

This was a hard choice!  These 11 best trip planning apps are just a few that we think work reallly well.  There are so many of them that can be really helpful.  More on those others later.

TripIt

Free for Basic Version/$49 for Pro Version

IOS/Android

TripIt allows you to build out an entire trip inside the app including flights, hotels, restaurants, car rental bookings, or anything that you’ve got included in the trip.  All in one app.

Wanderlog

Free

IOS/Android

Wanderlog is another app that lets you plan your entire trip inside the one single app.  You can do things like research activities in different destinations that you’re planning on visiting, plan an entire day of activities and organize everything inside the app by connecting your email and then letting Wanderlog do it’s magic.

TripAdviser

Free

IOS/Android

TripAdvisor has without a doubt become the gold standard of reviews and recommendations.  When you’re traveling somewhere that you haven’t been before and you’re unfamiliar with every aspect of that destination, some research is definitely in order before you choose your accommodations, restaurants, and sightseeing.  TripAdvisor has real-time reviews on all of those and more.

Visit A City

Free

IOS/Android

Visit A City solves the problem of what to see wherever it is you are going.  And this has become one of my favorites.  Inside the app, when you choose a city you’ll then have the option to choose Things To Do and Sights, but my favorite thing is the option to choose a timeframe as well.  For example, 3 Days Barcelona Top Attractions.  Or Barcelona With the Kids – 5 Days Itinerary.  In addition, there is a feature called Avoid Crowds which offers sightseeing and activities that allow you to….yep, you guessed it.  Avoid Crowds!  Love this one.

Roadtrippers

Free

IOS/Android

Roadtrippers is a fabulous app if you’re planning a road trip anywhere in the world.  As simple as adding your starting and ending points and requesting what information you want to be given for that route.  Options include Hotels, Things To Do, Food & Drink, Camping & RV, Outdoors, Amusements and Points of Interest.  Choose what you want and Roadtrippers will calculate the best route between your starting and ending point.

Rome2Rio

Free

IOS/Android

Rome2Rio comes in handy when you are totally clueless about the logistics of getting from point A to point B.  Add a starting and ending point in Rome2Rio and this app will search out just about every mode of transportation that exists between those two points and will give you approximate costs and travel time.  I’ve seen all of the following included as modes of transportation on Rome2Rio – flights, trains, buses, rental cars, taxis, rideshares like Uber and Lyft, ferry, and even car share like BlaBlaCar.

Skyscanner

Free

IOS/Android

Skyscanner is one of the best sites for booking flights online.  It’s fast, and they have a great feature called Explore which allows you to simply add some dates and see where you can get cheap flights to.

Kayak

Free

IOS/Android

Kayak is another great site for finding deals on flights.  It’s simple to use, fast and has a user friendly interface.

AirBnb

Free

IOS/Android

Airbnb is one app that probably doesn’t need much introduction.  If you’re looking for more of a vacation rental, like a house or apartment instead of a hotel, Airbnb is a great way to go and their app works very well.

VRBO

Free

IOS/Android

VRBO is another vacation rental app that offers houses, apartments, condos, and such.  If I don’t find what I’m looking for on AirBnb, my next stop is always VRBO.

Booking.com

Free

IOS/Android

Booking.com is the place to be if you want a hotel instead of a vacation rental like a house or apartment.  Great deals can be found on Booking.com.  While they also offer some vacation rentals, their focus is really more on hotels and you’ll find many smaller non-chain type hotels and inns here as well.

Hopefully one or more of these 11 best trip planning apps for travelers will help make your travel planning a bit easier in the near future.

And if you’re in the process of planning a trip, be sure and use a trip planning checklist!  It will save you from inviting any travel mishaps if you forget any important details during the planning process.

Travel safe, travel often!
