Day 1 Blogging Course: Introduction

How and Why To Start A Profitable Blog Ecourse Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of How (and Why) To Start A Profitable Blog E-Course, even if you’re a baby boomer like me!

I’m glad you decided to enroll in my course and it’s great to have you here!

Why This E-Course?

I created this course to simplify the subject of exactly how you can start a blog and turn it into a profitable online business.  Did you even know that you can possibly transform your favorite hobby or interest into a profitable blog and online business?

The thing is, I can talk about the HOW part all day long but if you don’t fully understand the concept behind how you can make money online, then it won’t make as much sense to you as it should.

And that’s a shame because the process is really very simple.

So that’s why this introduction is included in Day 1 of the course….so that you can learn a bit more about the business model that I recommend if you’re interested in blogging and online business.

But First, Who Am I?

Mary Emmer

My name is Mary Emmer and I’m the owner/author of

I’ve been self-employed almost my entire adult life, and since I’m a baby boomer…that’s pretty long!  In addition to my blog I have another few blogs in the works and I’m also the owner (since 1984) of a full service brick and mortar travel agency.

“Blogging is one of those things that I wish I had started decades ago.”

Yes, that’s my quote and it’s true!

The travel business is a very complicated, hands on and labor intensive business model and I like blogging because the opportunities are endless and it’s not as labor intensive as the travel business or many other types of businesses out there.

I’ve been blogging for quite some time now, but I just wish someone had introduced me to this type of business model much earlier on.  Anyway, if you want to know any more about me you can visit my about page here.

The Easiest Way To Make Money Online

So what is that business model that I recommend for anyone that wants to get started with an online business?

Affiliate marketing.

If you’re not familiar with that term, don’t worry.  You’re going to learn what the affiliate marketing business model is all about next.

How Does Affiliate Marketing Really Work?

Affiliate marketing is actually happening all around you all the time, and you probably don’t even realize it.

Here’s how it works.  Many companies or individuals with products or services to sell use affiliates to promote and sell their products.  In return for doing so, they pay a commission to the affiliate.  It’s a very simple business model for you as the affiliate, because you can earn commissions on the sale of a wide range of products and services and you do not have to worry about actually creating the products yourself or having any inventory.

Blogging is one method of doing affiliate marketing.  It’s not the only method, but in my opinion blogging is the easiest method and that is what I will be covering in this E-Course.

Important Note

Affiliate marketing (via blogging or any other method) is a real business which takes time, effort, consistence and persistence.  It is not a get rich quick scheme in any way and you need to go into it with the right mindset.  What is the correct mindset? That you will consistently do the work required in order to get the results that you want.

Consistent Effort = Consistent Results

An Example Of Affiliate Marketing

Remember how I mentioned earlier that affiliate marketing is happening all around you and you’re probably not even aware of it?

Fact:  Almost every major retailer now distributes their products and services through affiliates. If you’ve purchased anything online you’ve more than likely purchased via an affiliate and didn’t even know it.  Here are a few examples of companies that use affiliates:

  • Amazon
  • Walmart
  • Target

Do any of those sound familiar to you?  These are just a few examples.  There are literally thousands of companies representing millions of different products and services, and they are all looking for affiliates to promote their stuff.

Here’s a Closer Look At How The Process Works

1.  You (the affiliate) decide what kind of niche you want to promote products in.

2.  You find a company that has the type of products or services you want to promote and that offers an affiliate program.  As you can see with companies like those I’ve listed above, your choice of different products is virtually endless.  Once you’ve identified the companies you want to become affiliated with, you sign up in their affiliate program.

3.  You create a blog, and start creating content around those products and/or services that you want to promote.  Your content will include unique affiliate links that will tie any sale directly to you.

4.  When someone clicks one of your links and purchases a product or service for which you are an affiliate, you earn a commission.

But Wait – Do I Have To Be A Salesperson?

No.  Not exactly.

Here’s why –

Let’s say that you are a cat lover.  You decide your blog topic or “niche” is going to be about cats and specifically about kittens and young cats.  You are going to write helpful content on your blog about taking care of new kittens, the best food to give kittens, the best cat toys for kittens, tips on how to care for kittens, and also recommendations on great products for kittens like cat food, toys and more.

Then, when someone searches online for information about kittens, they find your site and they see that you have lots of very useful information about kittens.  They will also see your product recommendations and if they click on one of your links to purchase a product (remember – these are your unique affiliate links that tie those product sales to you), you earn a commission.  Boom!

So for example, if you were an Amazon affiliate, you would use your Amazon affiliate link for all  of the cat related products that you recommend in your blog content.  Then, when your visitor clicks the links they will be sent through to Amazon where they will purchase the product.

And one of the really beautiful things about this business model is what you DON’T have to do!

Here Is What You Did NOT Have To Do:

  • Develop the cat related products
  • Find the customer
  • Place their order
  • Ship their products
  • Collect money from the customer
  • Handle returns and refunds
  • Handle any customer service issues

All you had to do was blog about something you love (kittens), provide helpful information about that topic, and optimize your blog properly so that it was easy for your potential visitors to find your blog.

So you can see that you don’t need to “sell” anything at all.  What you actually did was provide help to your visitor.  You provided a solution to their problem.

The process that I’ve just described here is the business model called affiliate marketing.  And if you can provide an answer or solution to a question or problem and then master the skills you need to optimize your blog so people can find it when they’re searching for an answer or a solution, then you will do very well with affiliate marketing.

A Powerful Business Model

Affiliate marketing is an extremely powerful business model.

Because as of 2018 there are over 4 billion people on the internet every single day and that number continues to grow.  many of them are searching for information and solutions to various problems that they have.  And the vast majority of them are purchasing all kinds pf products and services online.

Are you starting to see the potential here?

Recap Of The Affiliate Marketing Process

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Earn commissions.

What If I Have No Experience?

Alot of people think they can’t get involved with blogging and affiliate marketing because they don’t yet have any experience with things like creating blogs, writing blog content, online marketing or maybe not even much experience with the internet in general.

But that’s not a problem.  You do need a few skills, but that’s what this E-Course is all about.  A chance for you to get the skill-set that you need to make it all happen.

If you can follow simple step-by-step training, then you can do this (even if you’re a baby boomer like me)!

You definitely do not need to be a professional writer, a web design expert or anything else, as long as you follow along with the training and take action on what you’ve learned.

This is it for Day 1 of How (and Why) To Start A Profitable Blog E-Course, even if you’re a baby boomer like me!

In future days of this E-Course I will be showing you exactly how to start your online business and I’ll be including valuable tips from my own personal experience as well.

If you follow the steps that I give you in this course, you’ll have the knowledge  you need to succeed online WAY faster than if you try and do this on your own without the training.

But before I go I’d like to share one last thing with you.  And by reading this you’ll realize that I’m really a bit of an introvert.  I’ve tried many different types of “home” businesses in the past, and while many of them were certainly fine opportunities, I finally had to admit to myself that I simply did not like doing things like calling prospects on the phone or talking to friends/family about my business in the hopes that they would purchase something or join my business.  I’m grateful to have found blogging because I don’t have to do any of those things now.

Here are the top reasons I love the affiliate marketing business model…
