What Is Your Niche?

Before you can actually start your blog, you need to have some idea what it is that you’re going to talk about in your blog content.  The subject of your blog is referred to as your niche.

I love this part.  Did you know that you can start a blog and possibly turn it into a profitable online business (if you’re interested in making any money) around your favorite hobby or interest?

It’s usually recommended that you blog about something that you’re super interested in.

Because you’ll be spending quite a bit of time with your blog, and you don’t want to get bored and lose interest in it.

Your blog topic is called your “niche”.  Your niche can honestly be whatever you want it to be, and there is a way to monetize almost any kind of niche.

Don’t Get Stuck Here!

Alot of people get kind of stuck here.  They can’t think of a subject that they are knowledgeable enough about to start a blog with.  And they also think (mistakenly so) that they already need to be “experts” in the subject they choose to blog in, but personally,  I don’t think so.  Most people overlook things that they already know a little bit about.

This is one reason I love the idea of us “baby boomers” getting into the blogging game.  Guess what?  Even older people who think they don’t know anything….know stuff.  They’ve already had half a lifetime of life.  That’s some real experience if you ask me.  Many of them have had long careers in a variety of different fields that they could draw some blogging subjects from.  Many have had kids and now have grandchildren.  There are lots of possibilities in that niche alone.  So honestly, the options are endless if you just start thinking about it.

Here are some current popular niches for blogs.

  • Travel
  • Gardening
  • Food, Recipes
  • Lifestyle
  • Fashion
  • Baby stuff
  • Parenting
  • Pets
  • Fitness, Health
  • Finance
  • DIY

This is really just a short list.  There are so many more. But then, depending on the purpose of your blog, you may want to drill down a little deeper and get even more specific in a specific niche.

Day 3 Action Step

Spend some time thinking about your “niche”.  Come up with your own short list of subjects that you might want to blog about.

Be sure and complete your list of ideas before you continue on to Day 4 of this course.
