About

Mary Emmer visiting a mountain fortress in Bulgaria

I share real-life travel experiences, practical perspective on staying mentally engaged along the way, and honest looks at how people continue to support a travel-forward life, without pretending aging comes with an instruction manual or that everything always goes smoothly.

This isn’t about perfection or packing light. It’s about traveling well, staying curious, and making choices that still fit – even as life, priorities, and plans evolve.

If that sounds interesting to you, you’ve found your people.

Going Places – On the Map & Off It

Still En Route is where midlife meets adventure – because wanderlust doesn’t retire. It’s about real-life travel after 60 – traveling well, staying curious, and making choices that keep adventure on the table. Whether I’m currently traveling, planning the next long stay, or thinking through what makes extended travel comfortable and sustainable, I focus on what actually works, what’s worth the effort, and what makes the journey enjoyable.

Why Still En Route?

For decades, I’ve run my own travel company, creating custom itineraries and luxury trips for people who wanted something more than a cookie-cutter vacation. Somewhere between booking river cruises and juggling a hundred browser tabs, I discovered I could chase new ideas (and destinations) even when I wasn’t traveling – through blogging, affiliate marketing, and building niche websites from anywhere with Wi-Fi.

Now, Still En Route is where all that comes together.

  • Travel – Travel tips and inspiration for grown-up travelers who like smart ways to explore with comfort, curiosity, and a dash of humor.
  • Travel Mindset – Thoughtful perspective on staying curious, confident, and mentally engaged through travel – adapting to change, learning along the way, and traveling in ways that still feel exciting and doable after 60.
  • Funding the Journey – Practical, flexible ways people support continued travel – drawing on real experience, realistic expectations, and ideas that fit around life (and travel), not the other way around.

And because no good About Me page is complete without a few quirky tidbits…

Funny Facts (About Me)

  • I would usually rather shop for new blog themes than clothes.
  • I only found my inner geek late in life – now I’m all in!
  • Reading is a favorite hobby of mine, and I readily admit that I love romance novels. The truth is, a lot of people absolutely will not admit that! Not sure why! How else do you think the romance fiction industry has gotten to be worth over 1 billion dollars a year? So, it’s no surprise that one of my niche sites is a book blog.
  • I’ve loved cooked spinach (even the canned stuff) since I was a little kid.

Pull up a chair, pour yourself a coffee (or wine), and let’s plan your next chapter – on the map and off it.

Until the next stop (preferably with snacks)
